Text Setup

Turning a manuscript into a printed book is easy, but there are a few things to remember when setting up your text file for printing.
First and most importantly is that your document size must match your intended final book size. For example if you want your book to be 6x9 inches, you must make your document on the computer that same size.
Another important thing to remember when setting up for a book is that you want the layout to be in single page format not as spreads. Also remember to make your margins big enough to accommodate the binding. We recommend at least 3/4 inch margins.
Photos are an important aspect of any book, but in order for them to look good, they must be high resolution (At least 300 dpi at full size). A common mistake is to download images from the internet and think because they look good on screen they will look good in print. Most websites have images set at 72 dpi which will look very bad when printed. Always make sure if you are purchasing stock photos online to get the high resolution versions for print.
After the design and layout is complete you must create a PDF of the file. Another common mistake is to send us the layout in Microsoft Word. This can be very troublesome as when transferring the files to another computer, layouts can shift and re-flow as well as fonts change. The bottom line is what you see on your computer is not necessarily what we see on ours. That is the beauty of the PDF. When you make a proper PDF, what you see on your computer in the PDF file is exactly what we see.
Once the PDF file is made and ready for book digital printing you can upload the files to our website at www.gaschprinting.com then click on the "Send a File" button.
